26th August TuesdayI went to bed at almost 5am this morning, got up at about 10.30 and had cereal for breakfast. Since when does Michelle start having breakfast, you ask.I have to eat something so that i can start on my medication. It's the first time I'm swallowing that pill. Anyway, the doctor did ask me if I am planning on any pregnancy because if I am, I cannot take the medicine cos it causes the baby to be deformed. Seemed quite serious to me.. there's even a slip of paper that the doctor gave me yesterday. I saw the side that warns females against pregancy while on that course of medication..Headed to Popular when i reached school to get my calculator. Finally i brought a non-scientific calculator to class, but I don't really like it! I prefer the calculator the guy sitting beside me was using..Class was okay, but was feeling a little sleepy at times. I think it could be because i slept late last night. Met up with friend after class and had a late lunch at Megabites. Stayed in school to study. Yes yes you didn't read wrongly. I was in the library studying okay! Doing some reading from the textbook that i borrowed from the library.Felt very sleepy halfway through because i couldn't highlight the book and i can do nothing except to read and its causing me to fall asleep! So i decided to read the slip of paper that the doctor gave me yesterday and i was taken aback.Just reading the side effects alone is enough to wake me up, it is rather half entertaining yet at the same time, scary! The highlighted parts are where i put it in bold. Of course i didnt type everything out!
Here's some of it..Side Effects: Some of the most common side effects are:- Dryness of the skin, lips, mouth, and lining of the nose. Some other reactions that may occur include: facial or body rash, flaking of the skin, itching, peeling of the palms and soles, increased sensitivity to the sun, inflammation of the lips, mild nose bleed, bleeding and inflammation of the gums, aches and pains in joints, easily injured skin and increased fatigue (is that why i'm feeling so tired today ..? ). You may experience some redness, dryness, irritation of the eyes or decreased night vision. These side effects are generally temporary and disappear when NIMEGEN treatment is stopped.
- If you wear contact lenses, you may find them uncomfortable during treatment because NIMEGEN may cause dry eyes. This may continue after treatment has stopped. (no wonder my eyes felt quite dry today .... i thought it was because the air con was too strong at first. )
- In some patients thinning of hair has occurred. In rare cases this hair loss persisted. (oh no oh no!! Hair loss ?! my hair thin enough ehh... !? )
Special Precautions to take: - A number of patients on NIMEGEN have experienced decreased night vision. Onset can be sudden. Be careful when driving or operating any vehicle at night. (oh.. driving at night.. but i only can drive at night ?! )
Special Symptoms you should tell your doctor about:- Tell your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms
- Headaches, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, other visual problems, change in mood, mental depression. ( Mental depression !!?? so serious ah.. )
- Persistent feeling of dry eyes, decrease in night vision
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes and/or dark urine
So that's what little scary yet interesting information that helped bring some entertainment to us while studying.. Oh and i have to add, I will have breakouts during the first few weeks of my treatment.. :(
